Twelve Months

April 22, 2015

Dear Evelyn,

Happy First Birthday!  A year ago today daddy and I woke up really really early and drove to the hospital and a few hours later you were born.  It's hard to believe sometimes.  But enough reminiscing, let's talk about you and what you've been up to this past month.  It's been a busy one!  You learned to nod yes and no when asked a question.  And when you nod yes it's adorable because you nod with your whole body, as if you are bowing.  When walking you can squat down and pick something up off the floor without having to sit first.  You can also get up from a sitting position using your hands instead of crawling to a piece of furniture to pull yourself up.  You are starting to say more and more words.  Sometimes they are actual words and sometime just tones of words, but they are words nonetheless.  Currently you can say; more, thank you, hi, and Leia.

We went strawberry picking this month with grandma.  We had a lot of fun and I think you ate half the strawberry field.  When we were done your entire shirt was stained with red juice.  One of your favorite games is one that GiGi taught you.  She will take a Fisher Price Little People in her hands, rub it a few times then make a fist with both hands enclosing the Little People.  You then turn over both hands to try to find it.  If you aren't playing the game and you want to, you will walk up to someone and rub your hands together.  It's the cutest thing!

You are finally off formula and are on whole milk exclusively!  I wasn't sure you were going to like whole milk because you absolutely refused it at first.  We tried mixing it with formula and you refused that as well.  We kept at it and thankfully you now like it and even ask for it now and then.

We had your 12 month well visit today.  You are 20 pounds and 29 inches long.  We had another round of shots but you did great!  Only cried for a minute or two and then you were fine.  The doctor was very happy with your development so far and said in the coming months you will be working even harder on those fine motor skills.

I am looking forward to your birthday party this weekend!  We have the cutest owl theme for it and daddy, aunt Ashley and I have been working hard to get everything ready.  While I know you won't remember any of it, we will and let's be honest, that's who the first birthday parties are really for....the parents :)  I excited about this next year for you, to see how much you grow and learn and to see you really start to develop your personality.

Love,
Mommy
